2025 year of action

During 2025 we will designate the eight river valleys of Dumfries and Galloway, as the Joseph Thomson Cycle Way.
This route was pioneered by our secretary in June 2023. It is challenging, but well within the capability of an experienced well-equipped cyclist. Terrain is mainly on minor roads, with some gravel tracks to be enjoyed.
Not only does the route go through the mid Nithsdale area where Joseph Thomson was born and grew up, but it also affords great vistas across the estuary of Criffel, his favourite hill.
It also honours the place where Kirkpatrick Macmillan invented the bicycle as we know it today.
The route encompasses much of Dumfries and Galloway in the south-west of Scotland, in a way that was familiar to Joseph Thomson in his explorations on the vast African continent, using river valleys as his guide.
Joseph Thomson Maasai Trust is delighted to be able to present this new route for those who would like to embrace these enriching landscapes in the same spirit, and become explorers themselves, on two wheels.

Visit by ezekiel katato
We are eagerly looking forward to a visit by Ezekiel Katato, Maasai Elder, in mid August. The programme for this will be available shortly, so do watch this space . . .

Action on Two Wheels

Throughout the year, our secretary Peter Wright will be tackling a lot of outdoor activities of a pretty strenuous nature. This is all to highlight and promote the cause, and above all, raise funds for Maasai Girls Education Project. He`s no spring chicken, and will be aged 78 before the year is out.

and that`s not all surely?
Stay tuned in and watch this space
